Tangents and Rambles

So much time, so little to say. Strike that. Reverse.

I'm the type who always prefers the bad news first, then the good. It seems most logical to me.

My dad has a friend, who died a very sad death over Thanksgiving weekend. She was an elderly woman (age 87), who he did not realize had opted to stay home alone without her caretaker over the holiday. For an unknown reason she decided to drive (which, according to my dad, she did not do) and went missing for a day. Her car, and body, were found near Starved Rock, in the river. I did not know her, but Starved Rock is one of my favorite places and I know I will be reminded of her when next I visit there.

My dad was to be a pallbearer - which he seemed very surprised at. Unfortunately, he was not feeling well yesterday so he was unable to attend. I know he truly had been sick the last few days, but I also know he was worried he might stumble or fall. I'm not sure which played more of a role in his absence.

It makes me so sad that so many personal experiences and stories will go untold and unheralded with the passing of our elder generation. Historians, myself included, spend so much time analyzing history without the passion of the human experience, that we forget we have access to what we seek in what no longer exists.

Well, I won't lie, that depressed me. I'm not so big now on moving forward to the good news. Maybe bad news before good is not so logical in every case. One can not truly follow news of loss with good news, but it can strengthen us, right?

It seems I've somehow earned myself a pretty significant promotion. I'm baffled, honestly. For the time being I will be balancing a developer and producer position; the way I choose to go in the future will be up to me.

I really am pretty excited -- Really.
